7 award-winning American and non-tariffed sparkling wines to get your fix

America’s got Champagne problems.
On Thursday, President Donald Trump threatened up to 200% tariffs on all alcoholic products from the European Union after the countries levied a 50% tax on US whiskey.
Although Americans are pouring less wine than they used to, sparkling wine sales have been popping off — meaning this sobering news sent sippers into a fizzy tizzy.
In response to the threats bubbling up, The Post compiled a list of the top sparkling wines from the US and UK, which is no longer part of the EU.
Many of these wines were honored at the 2024 Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) — widely considered the world’s most respected wine competition.
East Coast
RGNY, Scielo Riesling
The $31 white sparkling wine — made from 100% Riesling grapes — was given a Bronze DWWA in 2024, scoring 89/100.
A sip tastes like “crisp citrus, lime and a hint of petrol on the nose, a palate of green apple, lime and a racy acidity,” according to Decanter.
Damiani Wine Cellars Brut
The Méthode Champenoise wine won best sparkling in 2024 at the 38th annual New York Wine Classic.
The 2017 batch — made from 55% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier — is not available, but Damiani has several other years with similar blends available for purchase, ranging from $50 to $65.
Sparkling Pointe, Southold, LI
If you want to sample several local sparkling wines, head to Sparkling Pointe. The winery exclusively makes bubbly varietals and has won several prestigious awards, including medals at the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships.
As the tagline asks, “If it’s not Sparkling, what’s the Pointe?”
West Coast
Domaine Serene, Evenstad Reserve Brut
Made from 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir, the sparkling white wine blend was awarded a Gold DWWA in 2024, scoring a 96/100.
Each $85 bottle provides “a hedonistic style, brimming with apple pie and vanilla ice cream character and a lingering surge of citrus to provide freshness and verve. Full, foamy and long,” Decanter said.
Chandon, Etoile Brut
The $90 sparkling white, made from 54% Chardonnay, 44% Pinot Noir and 2% Pinot Meunier, was honored with a Gold DWWA in 2024, scoring a 96/100.
This bubbly offers “lovely toasty nose infused with green apples and plums which come to life on the palate and swirl around the fine effervescence and racy acidity,” Decanter reported.
United Kingdom
Chapel Down, Rosé
Created from 61% Chardonnay, 23% Pinot Noir and 9% Pinot Meunier, the $48 sparkling rosé was rewarded with a DWWA Best in Show title in 2024, scoring 97/100.
“The aromatic fruits are satisfyingly restrained and subtle, and the palate clean and emphatic,” with “a mineral-salt undertow as well as a soft sherbet charm,” according to Decanter.
Hambledon, Première Cuvée Brut
The $90 sparkling white, made from 67% Chardonnay, 11% Pinot Noir and 22% Pinot Meunier, was given a Platinum DWWA in 2024, scoring a 97/100.
A taste elicits “spectacular layers of brioche, toast, lemon curd and spiced golden apple” which “unfurl onto the creamy, nutty texture,” Decanter described.
