En el Día de las Matemáticas



Hoy jueves es Día Internacional de las Matemáticas. Una de las materias en la que los mexicanos estamos reprobados junto con comprensión lectora. Pero, ¿por qué no nos gustan las matemáticas? Porque pensamos que son difíciles, que están hechas para resolver problemas complejos y que por lo mismo carecemos de habilidades para ponerlas en práctica. Lo cierto es que nos ayudan a resolver situaciones cotidianas como planear presupuestos, hacer compras, gestionar el tiempo, definir espacios y tomar decisiones estratégicas. Hablando de la humanidad nos han permitido entender el universo, sustentar las comunicaciones, desarrollar la computación y hoy la inteligencia artificial, así como la recopilación y análisis de datos, cálculos, predicciones financieras y gestión de riesgos; entre más cosas.

Los matemáticos más famosos de la historia han sido Euclides, Arquímedes, Isaac Newton, Leonhard Euler, Carl Friedrich Gauss, Évariste Galois, John von Neumann y Alan Turing quien desempeñó un papel clave en el desarrollo de la máquina de Turing en la descodificación de códigos durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.

Sin las matemáticas no podríamos comprender el mundo, desarrollar un pensamiento lógico y resolver problemas, tenemos que empezar por apreciar su utilidad.
