Descubren dos cambios biológicos en bebés nacidos durante la pandemia del covid-19






El encierro durante la pandemia del coronavirus cambió el microbioma intestinal de los bebés nacidos en ese periodo, concluye un estudio.

Según el estudio, las diferencias pueden haber estado condicionadas por el entorno único del confinamiento, incluida una mayor duración de la lactancia materna y menores tasas de infección, debido a que se redujo la exposición a gérmenes y bacterias, lo que derivó en una menor necesidad de antibióticos: solo el 17 % de los bebés consumieron antibióticos al año de edad, frente al 80 % de los niños prepandémicos. El menor consumo de antibióticos se tradujo en un mejor microbioma.

Además, los científicos encontraron que los bebés nacidos durante la pandemia presentaron tasas más bajas de lo esperado de enfermedades alérgicas, como las alergias alimentarias. Así, solo cerca del 5 % de los bebés habían desarrollado una alergia alimentaria cuando tenían un año de edad, en comparación con el 22,8 % de los niños nacidos antes de la pandemia.
