Asma, uno de los padecimientos más frecuentes en México



En México, 8.5 millones de mexicanos viven con asma, enfermedad respiratoria crónica que hasta antes de Covid-19 se ubicaba como la primera causa de atención en el Servicio de Urgencias del Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Respiratorias (INER), debido a que no es diagnosticada ni tratada de forma oportuna y adecuada.

El asma es una enfermedad crónica que presenta tos, inflamación nasal, sensación de peso en área pectoral, dificultad para respirar y silbido de pecho.

Al respecto, Lizeth Lilian Juárez Martínez, médico especialista en Alergias e Inmunología de la Clínica 251 del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) indicó que el asma es una enfermedad crónica e inflamatoria de los bronquios. 

La cual se caracteriza por problemas respiratorios recurrentes, que aparecen como crisis o ataques de tos, dificultad para respirar y silbidos en el pecho. La mayoría de los casos es de tipo alérgico.

A decir de la experta, el tratamiento para asma solo puede ser brindado por un experto para disminuir la inflación en los pulmones.

De acuerdo con datos del Gobierno Federal, los estados del sureste como Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán y Quintana Roo tienen registro de prevalencia que va del 9 al 17 por ciento; en el centro es de entre 7 y 7.5 por ciento, y en el norte es menor.
